What's the Deal with Synthetic Birth Control?
Sep 23, 2024
Synthetic birth control can wreak havoc on your body (including your brain). It can detriment a woman’s health EVEN AFTER being discontinued. So let’s go through what birth control does exactly:
- damages the tight junctions of the intestinal lining leading to leaky gut & therefore a host of autoimmune conditions/symptoms
- increases levels of GI inflammation & disrupts the gut microbiome by increasing beta-glucuronidase activity
- can greatly disrupt the estrobolome balance (this is the collection of bacteria & fungi in the gut that metabolize estrogen & affect estrogen levels in the body, which impact mood, weight, & libido)
- lessen nutrient absorption leading to nutrient deficiencies, especially vitamins E, C, B vitamins, selenium, magnesium, & zinc
- uses a synthetic form of estradiol called ethyl estradiol, which can cause estrogen dominance issues
- is an endocrine disruptor — made of synthetic estrogen & progestin, it gets in the way of natural hormone fluctuations, stopping ovulation all together
- shuts down the menstrual cycle entirely — if you do get a period, it’s not real; true periods require ovulation
- progesterone is only produced during ovulation, so you get 0 progesterone, a vital hormone that makes you feel like yourself (among other benefits) -is a group one carcinogen
- all of these physical symptoms can manifest as brain health symptoms, as they are impacting the gut, the second brain. Depression, anxiety, etc. are common
I could go on & on, but that’s a start!
Birth control started as a promising supporter of women’s reproductive freedom, but over time it has only led to further oppression. It STILL puts the sole responsibility on the woman to prevent pregnancy, while causing chaos and dis-ease in her body. That doesn’t sound very feminist to me.
I know this can feel SO daunting, it’s actually designed that way: to get you to shut up about it. But you & your body deserve better. You can get support with Post Birth Control Syndrome, and in a natural contraceptive method. I recommend the Fertility Awareness Method to prevent pregnancy and get to know your body!
I can help. I have some open 1:1 spots right now, and I'd love to support your on your journey to health.
